Asin’s father Joseph Thottumkal is a businessman while her mother Seline is a doctor.
Asin attended the Naval Public School in Cochin and later on completed her Junior College from St. Theresa’s Higher Secondary School. She has a degree in BA from St. Theresa’s College.
Asin began her career as a businesswoman before entering filmdom.
Asin is brand ambassador for various products such as Fairever, Tanishq, BIG 92.7 FM, Spinz, Parachute, Colgate and Mirinda.
Her breakthrough in films came with Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi (Telugu) where she starred opposite Ravi Teja.
Asin’s first Tamil film was M Kumaran, Son Of Mahalakshmi in 2004. The film went on to become one of the biggest hits of the year.
Her movie Ghajini with Surya, which was released simultaneously in both Tamil and Telugu, was a mega hit in both languages. The film is being made in Hindi with the same title. Asin will be starring opposite Aamir Khan this time round. Asin’s forthcoming film will be Dasavatharam (Tamil) opposite Kamal Hassan. This film is to be dubbed in eight languages including Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Bhojpuri, Marathi and Hindi.
