Ram Gopal Varma’s family is originally from Andhra Pradesh. His father’s name is Krishnam Raju and his mother is called Suryamma. Ram Gopal Varma dropped out of the V. R. Siddhartha Engineering College in Vijayawada from the civil engineering branch. Varma was keen on filmmaking from the early days and he regularly watched films both Indian and Hollywood cinema. Initially he earned his living as the owner of a video cassette library.
Varma's father was a sound recordist at Annapurna studios a company, which was owned by Nagarjuna's father. And Varma and Nagarjuna were childhood friends. So RGV’s first film Shiva was financed by Nagarjuna’s father.
RGV made his mark in the Telugu industry with his debut film Shiva, a violent stylized crime drama set against a college backdrop. His next film Kshana Kshanam (starring Venkatesh and Sridevi), an adventure drama, was another blockbuster
Varma started his own production banner Varma Corporation Limited, and produced successful Telugu films such as Money, Money Money, Gulabi and Anaganaga Oka Roju.
In Bollywood he became a household name with Rangeela. Some of his hit films after Rangeela are Sarkar, Satya, Company and Shool. But he has also had many flops such as Nishabd, Darna Zaroori Hai and Nach. His most disastrous venture to date is Ram Gopal Varma Kii Aag.
Currently, he is busy working on Sarkar Raj the sequel to the highly acclaimed Sarkar. Sarkar Raj stars Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
