A daughter's marriage always makes for good material for soaps. So here's a new series on Zee TV about a family which boasts of four daughters. Hamari Betiyoon Ka Vivah sees mother Kulraj Kohli hustling and bustling about town looking for the perfect suitor. She even seems to voice her concerns in her conversations with God. And in the opening scene of this new tele-series, we see her prayers being answered within seconds as Mrs Chopra comes strutting along with the 'perfect match' for her second daughter - Trishna.

Within the first 15 minutes you can already see the first family secret emerge as Mama Kohli finds it uncomfortable to answer why Trishna is being married off before her eldest daughter Sujata. Although Sujata shuts people up saying that she wants to study further, she is seen just seconds later weeping in the kitchen.

In the meanwhile, Trishna slips out with her older sister to look for the potential husband and play a prank on him. Having successfully caused all the damage they could, they return to the house to see his parents leave in a hurry politely promising to call with their decision later. In all this huff and drama, it is amazing to note that Trishna's opinion isn't even asked for. Her mother automatically assumes that if the boy’s side says yes, they will start planning the wedding. The daughters may consider their mother's actions a joke but one can see the anticipation of an impending fate that they must succumb to sooner or later.

The plot reminds you of Bride And Prejudice... out and out! So much so that even the role of the girls' father in played by Anupam Kher's bother Raju Kher. Mrs Kohli is played by Himani Shivpuri and like her big screen persona, is a loud and sometimes outspoken woman. She wants her daughters to marry rich men and lead lavish lives. Trishna, the second daughter, like Ash in the movie is well-read and confident. The youngest daughter too exudes all qualities of a giddy-headed tomboy.

Quite predictably the next six months the show's script will flow much like the movie. Unfortunately, this story might just end up like any other saas-bahu serial once the plot twists and turns run out. Regardless, the first show didn't drag even a little bit. It was fast paced (except for those darn ads) and action packed. The new talents on the show are definitely to watch out for. Especially the youngest Manisha and the fiesty Trishna.

Verdict: Watch this until it gets stereotypically similar other daily soaps
