'Lofing' with Lola
Lola TV, the ‘resident beauty on duty’ with Upen Patel on Channel [V] was a riot. Upen and Lola were a perfect match, Upen with his heavy 'US' accent and Lola with her heavy South Indian accent. Upen, with his straight-faced humour and Lola with her coy sarcasm. Lola the perfect host and actress and Southie to the last drop of tender-coconut water; curious and questioning one moment, humorous another, and delightfully sharp yet another. At times Upen did not know whether he was coming or going. The options that she offered for her multiple choice questions needed no grey matter to answer but one could certainly have given the heavy embraces at the end a miss. Probably the only option Upen had to silence the incorrigible Lola. But all said and done, keep it up Lola. And yes, Karan Johar you’ve certainly got competition here.
The Ultimate Guinness World Records on AXN was rather peppy this time what with contestants jumping in and out of their panties and the winner jumping a clear 27 times in and out of the pants. Who had practiced and who had not was clear to see. But as the adjudicator wondered and so did I, why did this contest happen in a boxing ring?
The interview of research adjudicator Chris on the same show was certainly an eye opener. He talked about how they followed a very strict process of selecting winners, had set guidelines for judging, and the hardest part of the adjudication process was to say no to many a contestant who worked his ass out only to be ruled out on some minor technical point. According to the adjudicator, the quirkiest record he’d come across was of a Sullivan who’d been struck by lightning seven times and yet managed to survive.
