Why the long face, Mr Bachchan?
Amitabh Bachchan has never had a great relationship with the media. For a large part of his career, due to some long forgotten reasons, there was a media ban on Amitabh. Then Amitabh boycotted the press. With the result the actor has been inaccessible for quite a few years.
There are many occasions when we get a glimpse of Big B giving a few bytes to the media. But it has been quite a while since he has appeared in a full-fledged interview. So, when the promos of a 30-minute Amitabh Bachchan interview on Zoom TV titled Let’s Talk started appearing on the channel, I was filled with a sense of eagerness. The prospect of going down memory lane with Amitabh Bachchan seemed like a great way to kickstart the weekend.
Unfortunately, five minutes into the show I was filled with a sense of disappointment. And the other 25 minutes did nothing to lift my hopes. Beginning the interview, Amitabh spoke cursorily about Bhoothnath. Despite the fact that almost half the film is about Amitabh and this eight-year-old kid Aman Siddiqui, Amitabh did not give us any insights into his relationship with Aman.
So, the poor host moved on to the first controversial question – his relationship with SRK. Bachchan said that both Shah Rukh Khan and he were very good at Trivial Pursuit. And then he clammed up. The abrupt manner in which he replied and his body language dared the interviewer to not go any further. And the girl got the hint.
Amitabh also condescended to answer one question about his brother. He mentioned that they don't meet very often due to geographical distances. For a change, Bachchan could have been human and admitted to their estrangement and subsequent patch-up but he was in no mood to give the audience a glimpse of his inner world.,
Then the interviewer asked him about the famed and much publicised 'Bachchan Tour' and the people accompanying them. Once again, Amitabh sort of bristled with anger. All the interviewer got was a curt monotonous reply mentioning, "Well, we will be leaving for our tour in a few months' time. Just wait and you will know who is accompanying us!" Well said, Mr Bachchan but this same reply given in a courteous manner would have made a world of a difference.

I do hope that ibnlive and of course, your tv channel are a little more informed than you actually project. Your insights and pop psychology efforts regarding mr bachchan writing articles on certain issues do not reveal so. So for a change - surprise us. Do read his article on the program ratings and maybe, just try understanding the point he was making. And yeah - while you are at it, stop sulking because i am sorry to inform you, barring a few (very few) you hardly have journalists of merit and caliber who can strike up an interesting conversation. If you didn't like the way he spoke to the journo, you have the choice of not airing the program.
