Let’s face it. Deepika and Sonam couldn’t have picked a better time to enter the industry. The slot for Bollywood’s top leading lady is wide open, with most of the established ones opting for marriage, relationships and a phase of hibernation.

Once upon a time there was a Madhubala. Years later there was a Hema Malini and a Rekha; later there even was a Sridevi. Finally, there was Madhuri, who perhaps was the last queen of the marquee to have reigned over the box-office, unchallenged for a fairly long spell. Will Madhuri post Aaja Nachle and Kajol with her upcoming venture U, Me Aur Hum be successful in re-staking their claim to the title? Or can Deepika and Sonam give them and the others a run for their money.
