'Ghatothkach is a fun-loving film'

Says director Singeetam Srinivas Rao about the animation flick

After the success of Hanuman, Ganesh and Krishna animators have now trained their eyes on an unlikely candidate for an animated feature Ghatothkach - Master of Magic. Popularly knows as the uninitiated and unlike, this Ghatothkach is not an ugly demon but a cute and cuddly one.

According to the 76-year-old director Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, the film reveals that there's more to Ghatothkach than just being the demon like son of Hidimba and Bhima.

"We have not kept everything authentic, he is cute and lovable and can change shapes," says Rao.

Besides several Tamil films, director Singeetam Srinivas Rao is the man behind the silent cult hit Pushpak. And stepping into animation is just the filmmaker's way of ensuring that he dabbles in different genres and does not rest on his laurels.

"Once I made Pushpak and Nache Mayuri, it's done and over. Now I'm making an animation film. Tomorrow, I want to make a pre-recorded musical. I want to make different films," Rao adds.

Ghatothkach - Master of Magic uses a motion capture technique with 48 cameras for the first time in an Indian animation film. To be released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Bengali apart from Hindi and English, the film is scheduled to hit theatres on May 23.
