GOAL vs CHAK DE: No big deal!
But sports films have a standard structure where the plot mainly revolves around an underdog. There is a set-up and a grand finale. How have you tried to differentiate your film from the rest?
Why should I make an effort to be different? Life in itself is so predictable, leave alone cinema where there are only these many ways to narrate a plot. I don’t understand how one can be deliberately different. The fact that I am making the film means it will have a distinct stamp. No two people can make an identical film there will always some individuality.
What about the reports about cold vibes between John and Arshad on the sets? And the whole John-Bips split saga that happened few months back.
The John-Arshad clash is absolute rubbish whereas John-Bips, I suggest you ask them. My actors gave me no problems while making the film.
Now there is a lot of red in the film-obviously inspired by Manchester United. Are there references to any other clubs and are the rumours about Wayne Rooney and Christiano Ronaldo’s guest appearances too?
Yes that is a reference to the Man Utd club. South Hall United is our official partner and the club featured in the film. The guest appearances are something I am not allowed to talk about, so just wait and watch. Once the film releases you will find out.
Do you think it will be football's Chak De?
No I don't think it will change the fortunes of football in this country overnight, I have no such false notions. But yes, I just wish my film is a part of the mini football movement that started in this country during the previous world cup.
What's next on your plate?
I have just started writing a fantasy film that I want to make on a grand scale with big stars.
London again?
I assure you there is no London this time.
Finally, why should one watch Goal and what are your expectations from it?
It is a film for the entire family and I hope everyone from eight to 80 watches it.
