'Rang Rasiya is an intimate film'
Ketan Mehta seemed a busy man checking every detail on the stage, props and the actors gearing up for the gala evening — the announcement of the completion of his film Rang Rasiya.
Shot extensively in Rajasthan, Benaras and Mumbai, the film, based on the life and time of the renowned painter Raja Ravi Varma, is an adaptation of Ranjit Desai's Marathi novel on the painter. Starring Randeep Hooda and Nandana Sen, it will be released in both English and Hindi titled Rang Rasiya and Colours of Passion respectively.
The event was special not only for Ketan but a whole lot of people associated with it. "Every time I’ve made a film, I landed up in censor trouble. So did Raja Ravi Varma, who was accused of obscenity and offending public morality. But the reason I wanted make this film was because of the subject — a colourful journey of a man who believed in his dreams and fought for his creative freedom," reasons Ketan.
His last film, The Rising, starring Aamir Khan, bombed at the box office. But that didn't deter the filmmaker from making yet another historical. "It's not that I haven't made a film on other genres. Believe me, I don’t go for historicals, it's usually the other way round. Fortunately, this is based on a novel so there are no chances of any controversy," smiled Ketan.
