Has Rajeev forgiven Ekta Kapoor?
One of the hottest hunks of primetime TV is all set to make his film debut. Rajeev Khandelwal is among a host of TV stars in this phase of transition. So what prompted him to give up the small screen? After all, TV turned Sujal aka Rajeev into a household name.
Rajeev of course says it has nothing to do with the SRK success story, but it's because he has had enough of never ending soaps. Here he speaks about his future plans and also mentions his favourite topic – Ekta Kapoor.
How and why did you decide to switch from television to films?
I was really bored of my work on TV. These days shows start with a lot of commitment but somewhere down the line they lose steam. I realised I was walking out of too many soaps midway just because they couldn’t sustain my interest. So I decided to get into films. At least films have a fixed duration of three hours and the shooting doesn’t go on and on...
Was it easy getting a break, thanks to your popularity on TV?
No, I had to start from scratch. My role as Sujal in Kahin To Hoga is a thing of the past. On TV no one remembers you once the character ends. But I was lucky that my director had faith in me and I got this role after a single audition. I didn’t have to go through a long screen test with different camera angles.
What is Aamir all about?
Before you ask me, it has nothing to with Aamir Khan …(laughs). Aamir is a fast paced thriller set in Mumbai. It’s about a young student whose life changes when he arrives in this city. He encounters a series of incidents and meets a variety of people. And this interaction forms the plot of the film. It’s a very engrossing script.
