Did Subhash Ghai dump Madhur?
Now that Subhash Ghai is ready to release his new film Black and White, we dug up an interesting fact about the making of the film. Much before Ghai himself turned director for the film, it was Madhur who was supposed to direct it.
Ghai had loved Madhur's Chandni Bar and had signed him to direct his next project. It was Madhur who introduced his actor-turned-scriptwriter friend Varun Vardhan to Ghai. Varun had narrated the entire script of Black and White to Ghai, who immediately wanted to make a film on the subject.
Unfortunately, Madhur got entangled with his own projects and kepy dilly-dallying Ghai's project for four years. Finally, Ghai couldn't take it any longer and decided to take up the project in his own hands.
Varun Vardhan, also an actor (who played Aamir's brother in Sarfarosh), says, "Four years ago, I had narrated a script to Madhur. He liked it and insisted I narrate the same to Subhashji. Madhur was supposed to direct a film for Ghai's banner. It was Madhur who had taken me along to meet Mr Ghai. Mr Ghai loved the script and immediately gave a nod. I was glad that a National award winning filmmaker Madhur would be directing the film. But things turned out differently and I am still unaware of the fact as why Madhur didn't do the film."
Varun Vardhan who is also acting in Madhur's Fashion, adds, "The idea of turning a scriptwriter came across as I was watching the 9/11 tragedy on TV. It was a gut feeling that urged me to write something on terrorism."
While Madhur's loss could well be Ghai's gain, as we are all waiting eagerly for March 7, when Black and White hits the marquee.
