DVD REVIEW: Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal
Any sports film across the world looks the same. Nothing much can be done about it, so when we decide to watch a sports movie, we expect some thrilling moments, kicks and finally victory of the underdogs. Look at any international sports film and you can see most of these got recognised entirely on the basis of astounding performances.
Closer home; we had Shah Rukh Khan's Chak De! India which established the fact that we too can make commercially viable sports films. One of our last entries to the Oscars was Lagaan which was based on a cricket match. But Vivek Agnihotri's venture Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal not just misses the goal but also lacks the much-required punch required in any sports film.
There is no point in discussing the storyline (which is as complicated as Ekta Kapoor's serials) because the film fails to create any kind of interest among the audience. The film deals with so many sub-plots that one really wonders what is the crux of the film. Though director tries to create sympathy for the dying South Hall Football Club, the script doesn't help the director in bringing out the pain and the trauma that the players go through. Arshad gives his most horrible performances so far. Boman Irani as the coach is the only saving grace in the film.
There are certain obvious glitches which even a non-football lover would be able to point out. There is this scene in the film where Sunny (John Abraham…ham…ham) realises that he needs to play for the underdogs and needs to support Southall Football Club. So, at the eleventh hour he rushes to the stadium while the National Anthems of participating countries are on, and links shoulder with Shaan (Arshad 'tiresome' Warsi) the skipper. Now I have a question to ask. Did Southall go with 10 players to play the finals, hoping that Sunny would return? Secondly, and more importantly, Sunny is no more a Southall member; so how is he allowed to play? I mean, can anyone just walk in and play a supreme league match?

Worst movie of the year may be the decade, by the way can't help arshad warsi from earning his bread but wats so special abt john and bi-pasha - they can't act from both the sides!!!!! Live & let live
What's the point of doing a "dvd review"? Does the story/quality of the film change when it's out on dvd? Ridiculous ...
