French award for Nandita Das' Marathi film
Chitra Palekar's film Maati Maay, starring Nandita Das, has won the Prix du jury Graine de Cinephage award in the feature films category at the recently concluded 30th Créteil's International Women's Film Festival (Festival International de Films de Femmes de Créteil), in Paris, France.
This is the fourth international recognition received by the film. Several filmmakers and enthusiasts watched Maati Maay, which was screened with French sub-titles.
Maati Maay (A Grave-keeper's Tale) is based on a short story (Baayen) by well-known author Mahasweta Devi. It is the heart-rending tale of a young mother who is trapped between her instincts, needs, and duties as per by the prevailing social system.
Under the banner of Dnya Films, the film has been produced and directed by Chitra Palekar and features Nandita Das, Atul Kulkarni and Kshitij Gavande in key roles.
