Priyanka-Harman to perform at IIFA

The lineup for Idea IIFA 2008 seems to be fairly impressive

The agenda for the press conference is a bit confusing. Is it a meet the press for the Ram Gopal Varma's new film Sarkar Raj? Or is it being held to showcase the IIFA awards to be held at Bangkok. But even at the end of the event the purpose for this mid-morning interaction with the media remained unclear.

At PVR cinemas Juhu Mumbai people arrive well in time. Instead of a banquet hall of a five-star hotel, the venue is a multiplex and getting a seat will certainly be a tough task. And sure as much the auditorium fills up within a few seconds of the doors being thrown open. Then within a span of 30-minutes, after the audience has been given enough time to settle down Amitabh Bachchan arrives with his entourage of body guards and security personnel. Given the time of the day he's dressed in a cream-coloured suit and matching shoes at that. He appears to be his usual fit and energetic self.

The IIFA sponsors are being honoured and trophies and mementoes are distributed to them. The audience meanwhile waits patiently for Big B to take the mike. When Amitabh comes to the dias his speech is short, interesting and gives out all the relevant details about the performers at the upcoming IIFA event. But he does break into a smile when he introduces the cast of his film, his son Abhishek Bachchan and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. One change though was quite apparent. Unlike earlier events when Sarkar was being promoted Amitabh is not promoting brand RGV. May be the debacle of Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag… is still too fresh in the minds of the people. The distance between the two is quite conspicuous, the two coming closer only at the shutterbugs insistance.

Then Ram Gopal Varma makes a short speech where he talks about the professionalism shared by all the Bachchans. He also mentions this film is not exactly a sequel to the first Sarkar (2005). He's in a subdued mood and the usual witticisms are absent.
