Tara Muzic fetes Soumitra Chatterjee
Soumitra Chatterjee, one of the most gifted and cerebral actors Bengali cinema has ever produced, is to be feted by Bengali satellite channel Tara Muzic with a retrospective of his telefilms between June 17 and July 15.
The telefilms are the channel’s own productions. Five films directed by relatively young filmmakers would be aired for the channel's regular Sunday slot.
For 50 years, Soumitra Chatterjee has been the first choice of directors whenever they had a challenging role. "From Satyajit Ray to Tapan Sinha to Mrinal Sen to Gautam Ghosh and Aparna Sen, all major directors have banked on the actor's enormous talent to create celluloid magic. His talent has not been confined to the big screen alone. He has enriched the world of television and specifically telefilms," says Chhanda Guha, Vice-President, Tara Muzic.
The showcase has the multi-faceted actor's work in some of the best telefilms Tara Muzic has presented in the past — each running for about 80 minutes. Some of them are: Asamapto (Atanu Ghosh), Dronacharya (Saibal Mitra), Ankush (Atanu Ghosh), Balya Bandhu (Sanjay Bhattacharjee) and Tiktiki (Raja Dasgupta).
