Can anyone really replace Kishoreda?
"No," replies Arnab matter-of-factly. "Kishoreda cannot be replaced and I'm not here to do that at all. I want to define my own individuality and sing my own songs along with his. I did this show and gave it my best. Every day, I went on stage and paid my tribute to him. To have won feels like a blessing from God, my family and also from Kishoreda himself."
In a reality show as specific as this one, Arnab also found himself struggling to follow the legend's lead in terms of his style and music, while maintaining his own flavour within his performances. So, what kind of strategy did the heir have to adopt?
"Many other contestants copied his (Kishore Kumar) style but that is something I did not want to do," Arnab replies.
"I wanted to be maintain his flavour while maintaining my individuality as well. In every performance, I made sure that I put 50 per cent of myself into it too. And this strategy really worked for me. In the long run, you need to maintain your individuality."
Arnab, who has already sung numbers like Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai from a film of the same name, Waada Raha from Khakhee and Khatra from Family, jokes that sometimes people use the term background singers to describe them as they're always in the background. So what does it take to come to the forefront?
"Reality shows give you a great opportunity to come to the forefront." Opines Arnab. "Before people liked my songs but they didn't know who I was."
K For Kishore was perfect for a singer of his caliber, which welcomed semi-established participants. He thus took his chances at being cliched, entered the contest, and of course, outshone his competition as Asha Bhonsle personally picked him to be the winner of the series and Kishoreda's heir apparent.
Arnab now has quite a few busy times ahead of him. Having signed a contract with HMV Sa Re Ga Ma for an album, the singer is all set to tour the world. Moreover, he also has four films lined up for him.
