Face-To-Face with Raageshwari
Actress turned VJ turned singer Raageshwari is going spiritual in her latest album. Two-years-after her last outing Sagari Rayan she is all set to switch gears to a different sound. We caught up with the singer at the Fashion Week to find out more about the album.
Tell us something about your new album.
It's totally on Islam. I think Islam is the most beautiful religion. Some of the producers who have heard my father and me singing Sufi songs made us an offer to compose an album on Sufisms. We talk about Ram and Rahim in the same breath. And we even talk about the Satgurus. The feel is similar to how Muzaffar Ali presented his music and women. And finally the most important message is secularism. In today’s times we sort of use religion to create a divide among people. Like I am a Hindu, but Hinduism is for everyone. Religion is there to be shared, loved and revered.
But why this switch to Sufi music?
This album is completely Sufi. Of course Abida Parveen and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan are the greatest in this genre. But this album is keeping in mind my capabilities as a singer. It's something people can sing along to. The songs are a mix of Persian, Pushto, Indian Classical and Pakistani tunes. The lyrics are the ones were written by some Pir many years ago.
Where will the music videos be shot?
The sky is the limit when it comes to selecting locations. We are planning to shoot at one of the greatest places on earth – The Mecca Madina. Then we are also looking at a few places in Pakistan. Even America and Canada have some of the greatest mosques. I really believe religion is to be celebrated not to divide people.
What else is keeping you busy?
I have been traveling and doing live concerts every weekend, by the grace of God. So yes I am pretty active on the music scene.
