'I need to connect to people'
He is unquestionably among the finest male singers in Bollywood. His velvet voice has given us some of our favourite songs in recent years. Few other singers can claim to reflect such myriad emotions in their singing and few can bring such emotion into their music, a remarkably gifted artist KK has just managed to do that
Rajeev Masand: Let me start by asking you KK, do you often get mistaken as KK the actor? Do they often mix you up?
KK: I must tell you this little incident that happened. My dad called me from Delhi and he said, "Monu, you started acting in films?" And I said, "No, no, of course not dad!" He said, "How ridiculous! I can see this article about you." And again I said, "No, it is not about me, it is about some other actor Kay Kay Menon." But he still said that he could see my photograph.
The daily had used my photograph and carried the whole article about Kay Kay Menon. Even all my friends started calling me to ask me whether I had started acting and I told them, "No, I can't act."
Rajeev Masand: And Kay Kay Menon when asked has said that your check reach him by mistake. Does he often return them?
KK: Oh God! I was wondering mere paise kam kum ho rahe hai (my money is decreasing).
Rajeev Masand: You have had a great year in 2007. You sang for some of the biggest films including Om Shanti Om, Metro, Tara Rum Pum, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Laga Chunari Mein Daag. Was it if you say, one of your most creatively satisfying years?
