Padma means the most prestigious
Singer Asha Bhosle is one septuagenarian who is no stranger to winning awards, she's won nine Filmfare Awards, two National Awards but she is every bit excited about receiving the latest honour, the Padma Vibhushan.
How special are these awards to you, do they still make a difference to you today?
I've won many awards including two National Awards and DadaSaheb Phalke Award, But the award that has its name starting with Padma means it's the most prestigious. Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan are the most prestigious and I naturally feel honoured that my government has recognised my work.
If Pancham da would've been with us here today, what do you think his reaction would've been on seeing you receive this award?
He would've felt very happy, as I remember when I received the National Award for a song composed by him Mera Kuch Saaman Tumhare Paas Pada Hai, he was delighted but I was disappointed that he didn't win the award for his composition and I received the award.
We hope you win the Grammy Award soon.
Nobody knows what the future holds for them but receiving the Padma Vibhushan is a big thing for me especially since its recognition from my own country and I love my country. The fact that India has honoured me with this award is the most important to me, no other award would mean as much to me as the Padma Vibhushan.
