Director Tharun Gopi's Kaalai stars Silambarasan, Vedika, Sangeetha, Vadivelu and Lal in the lead. Actress Nila has performed an item number for the movie.

GV Prakash Kumar's music for Kaalai is completely different from all his earlier compositions. The effort of the musician to present intelligent pieces contributes to gratifying listening.

Kaala Kaala sung by Benny and Mamtha Mohandas is a melody. That Mamtha is a singer with a difference is proved in the composition. She sings exemplifying the beautiful nuances and pausing suitably.

Guthka Lakhidi by Lucky Ali and Sunidhi Chauhan has a fusion of a Western tune that is structured with folk orchestration. Lucky Ali's bold timbre adds a refreshing new feeling to the song. Sunidhi's voice plays a perfect foil to Ali's tone glows remarkably in its own course as well.

Kutti Pisase is a typical Kuthu song by Suchithra and Silambarasan. Simbu's presentation proves the fact that the latent talent if nurtured can blossom into a perfect proof of artistry. Suchithra's voice sparkles with its usual charm and throughout the song, one can find the excellent rapport the twosome share.

The next piece in the album, Eppo Nee is a chorus supplemented by Madhusri's honey-sweet voice. Without much of musical twists and turns, the song stands out because of the brilliant rendering by Madhusri. The gentle background beat enhances its character.

Vanduttaanda Kaalai is a rap number that is interesting rhythmically and content wise. The opening is filled with just the lyrics, and the song gains tempo as it progresses. It is thoroughly charged with the joy.

The last in sequence is Veeramulla that is based on an earthy tune sung by Paalakkaadu Sreeram, Manicka Vinayagam and Tharun Gopi. Having an assortment of voices varying in texture and modulation, this song adds significant dimension and weight; the energy and essence of it is purely palpable.
