Now it’s Yeh Hai Jalwa on 9x. Star Plus may have been the initiator of dance reality shows. The first Indian dance reality show Nach Baliye which was telecast in 2005 created record TRPs' for Star TV. It also had other channels jumping onto the bandwagon with music and dance shows. Recently NDTV Imagine came up with Say Shava Shava but the show bombed badly.

Barely two months later 9x has come up with a dance show and they seem prepared to take NDTV Imagine head-on. The concept of Yeh Hai Jalwa has not been explored in any similar show so far. Different groups of lay people will be dancing with their favourite TV star. And since the channel is called 9x they have frozen on nine celebs. And yes, this show does not have any judges. The winner is to be decided entirely through audience poll.

The list of celebrities is quite impressive in itself. Rakhi Sawant, Ronit Roy, Prachi Desai, Rohit Roy, Rosa Catalano, Sharad Malhotra, Varun Badola, and Shweta Tiwari are all participating in the show.

The anchors for the show are the all time TV favourites Sakshi Tanwar and Smriti Irani. Smriti Irani thankfully has lost some weight though she could shed some more. Sakshi Tanwar looked relieved to be dressed casually and playing her age.

At a function held at Taj Lands end on March 12, 2008 most of the cast was present including Rakhi Sawant and Rosa Catalano. The choice of these two characters seems to be a big risk for various reasons. Rakhi created a huge furor when she lost to Aamir Ali on Nach Baliye 3 and Rosa still doesn’t speak or understand a word of Hindi.

The brief promos that were screened would have us believe the show holds a lot of promise. But the proof of the pudding is in the eating. So only the audience verdict will decide the fate of the show…

Yeh Hai Jalwa at 8:00 PM on 9x beginning Sunday March 16
