Ronit Roy's on a dancing spree
After Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, it seems like Ronit Roy has gotten hooked to shaking his booty for the jackpot! "Yes, I have got addicted,” laughs Ronit. “It’s such an adrenaline rush to do something that I hadn’t indulged in often, and also get praised for it. The cheers, votes and messages are adulating and overwhelming,” says the actor who didn’t think twice before postponing his film production to take up Yeh Hain Jalwa on 9X.
"I have been putting together a very interesting film. But then Yeh Hain Jalwa came up and I couldn’t resist the offer. We have a ball, even though it takes up time and is quite strenuous.”
It’s amazing that Ronit can balance a dance show, two prime time shows and live performances. “Well, I know my priorities. While my career is important, so are my health and my family. I schedule my work in a way that I can also spend time with Aador (3) and Agastya (5 months) and my brother’s family. My day begins at 5 am and ends at 10 pm! No late night parties for me.”
It is this meticulous approach that has perhaps allowed Ronit to play the character of Mihir (in Kyunki) and Mr Bajaj (in Kasautii) for years on end. One can’t resist asking, doesn’t he ever get bored and feel like quitting, especially since most of the telly soaps are women-centric?
"Firstly, I don’t believe in these segregations. Both men and women are equally necessary to any project. And secondly, I have been lucky to be able to play various shades in one character – like Mr Bajaj went through six transitions and even Mihir’s journey has been interesting. To top it all, the reactions one gets from fans, positive or negative, are always a big boost,” says Ronit, chuckling as he remembers an incident that occurred when Mihir had turned hostile towards Tulsi in Kyunki. “I was at my doctor’s, when an elderly lady saw me through the glass pane on the door and yelled accusingly, ‘what do you think you are doing with Tulsi? She is doing no wrong! You better behave yourself’ she went on and on. While it was funny, it also gave a sense of satisfaction.”
About his role in Kasamh Se, “It’s common to get mails booing me down as Aparajit. We have a hearty laugh over it” says Ronit revealing that they will miss Prachi Desai when she leaves the show.
Lastly, when do we see the two dashing brothers together on screen? “Well, we have been working together in two dance shows but yes now we both feel it’s the right time to do something together. We both are waiting to take on the world,” he smiles.
