Samir Soni likes playing naughty
We last saw him as the supportive suitor in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin. But after his stereotypical stints in acting, Samir Soni finally "got terribly bored of playing Mr. Goody Two Shoes and was dying for a variation." He thus waited, biding his time for roles that challenged his acting skills.
"I got numerous TV offers after Jassi…But television is a medium that requires you to deliver day in, day out whether or not you’re feeling up to it." Said Soni. "It gives you a lot of fame and money but at the cost of your creativity - a bargain that I was not willing to strike."
When in conversation with Samir one can clearly see that the man believes in himself. He claims that it's better waiting for roles that are interesting than jumping to opportunities that don’t bring out his best. Well, to his delight his year in hibernation paid off when he was offered the role of a cynical writer in Sanjay Gupta’s Alibaug.
When we asked him what appealed to him about the movie he said, "I fell in love with the character instantly because I identify with it, being a cynic myself. It has given me a chance to show my naughty humorous side."
And for the 39-year-old, this is a double whammy as he’s also acting in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion. He plays a gay designer in the movie! Well Samir, with your bold moves towards creativity, we definitely hope to see a lot more of you in future.
