MIAAC festival will conclude with King Lear

The MIAAC (Mahindra Indo-Amercian Arts Council) film festival will kick off with the red-carpet screening of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's long awaited Saawariya but there is also a lot of buzz about the concluding film The Last Lear. This film is the first Indian co-production by Sony Pictures and has been winning critical acclaim around the world at various film festivals. Watch this space for daily updates about the MIAAC festival from November 7 to November 11.

Mahindra and Mahindra is one corporate firm which has willingly extended its patronage to all ventures which promote art most especially theatre and films. Currently, there is hectic activity taking place with the Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council Film Festival coming up. The festival will be held from November 7-11, 2007 at various venues across Manhattan.

This corporate also wishes to facilitate development in areas, which generally do not enjoy corporate support. The MIAAC Film Festival will also be showcasing South Asian features, documentaries and shorts.

According to Anand Mahindra, the Vice Chairman & Managing Director of the Mahindra Group – "The Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council Film Festival is yet another way of strengthening our commitment to nurture the arts. With emphasis on cinema of and by the South Asian Diaspora, this festival has carved out a unique niche for itself and we are proud to be at the forefront of this international initiative."

Speaking on the occasion Roma Balwani, the corporate communications head, mentioned that the festival has a multi-point agenda as there are premieres, screenings and script writing workshops. It is an occasion to do both; promote South-Asian cinema at a global level and also bring the scattered Asian diaspora together under the aegis of the MIAAC Film Festival.
