REVIEW: Bombay To Bangkok

This low profile joy ride comes as a surprise from Nagesh

Director Nagesh Kukunoor must have tried to relive the joyous moment with his blue-eyed boy Shreyas as he makes him do the same 'running on the haystack' scene from Iqbal, when Shankar discovers Jasmine too is in love with him despite the language bar. Nagesh adds a little more nostalgic touch by keeping the popular Aashayein… track from Iqbal as the background score and even making Shreyas aka Shankar hum a few lines. Bombay To Bangkok sees him taking a tangy twist all together, flowing with the tide of comical entertainers. Nagesh fans, who by now have got used to his unconventional subjects and innovative approach in Hyderabad Blues, Dor and Iqbal, may not like him taking the detour this time. The film doesn’t have anything exciting in terms of cinematography and visuals. Although we get to see a lot of Bangkok.

Ghai's olive branch to Nagesh

Vijay Maurya aka JAM K, the Don rapper, needs a special mention here. This guy has indeed done a marvelous job, dropping in as the comic relief. Despite him playing a Don, one just loves him as he bursts into funny raps at the most intense of moments. Although the other characters, especially that of Dr Tripathi's (Yatin Karyekar), seem predictable.

One wonders, what made Naseeruddin Shah take up this blink-and-miss appearance as the Don.

The music
in the film is only average except for one song that is already climbing the charts. Kukunoor succeeds to some extent as he kick starts the album with a catchy track, We are same same but different. Composed by Salim-Sulaiman and written by Mir Ali Husain the song comprises Hindi, English and Thai words which makes it more interesting.

Verdict:
Overall, it's a feel-good movie, certainly worth a watch. This low-profile joy ride comes as a surprise from someone like Nagesh.

Don't be rude or interrupt others who are having a conversation. Ethnic slurs, personal insults and abuses are rather uncool. Criticise, but know where to draw the line. No point putting in personal details or links, we won't publish them. Try and write in English and please, stick to the point!
