REVIEW: Hum Sey Hai Jahaan

As good as the year 2007 was for the movies, that's how bad 2008 has become. Well, at least in respect of debutant directors. With the movies like Tashan, Mr Black Mr White, One Two Three, Woodstock Villa and many more, I think directing a movie has become some kind of baking business - bake one, bake a dozen – Just like a sale in a Big Bazaar, come one, come all - Who cares? Well, a movie-goer does care and Hamse Hai Jahan is a cherry on that baked cake which nobody wants to eat!

Debutanat Writer, director, producer and actor Mashoor Amrohi play the character of Sameer, a recovery agent, working for an underworld swindler Gary Rosario (Jackie Shroff). For some reason he gets stuck in a financial mess so he comes up with an ingenious plan of kidnapping Esha (Vishakha Singh) the daughter of a superstar actor Gyaneshwar Singh (Shehzad Khan).

The love-birds escape to the beautiful Sentosa Island for a lovely weekend and in spite of the hero being in love with the heroine, he is determined to execute his plan of holding the unsuspecting heroine for a ransom of Rs 50 lakh. The movie takes a confusing turn after that…and till the end it remains lost in confusion.

Mashoor Amrohi as an actor has definitely got the spunk. He comes across as brazenly confident man who knows exactly what he is doing. And when it comes to him being a director the same things can be said too. But there's a little problem because only he knows exactly what he is doing, leaving the rest in utter confusion. I mean c'mon shooting a movie on a DVCAM? Treating a movie like a home video? Thinking silver screen business as a piece of cake? Well its not… A multiplex is not as cheap as a bakery. Have some respect for the audience you're making the movie for.

Verdict: However bad the film was, it seems each and every person had a ball of a time doing the movie. No one is looking bored or out of place. Everyone is happy and that happiness is reflected in their acting and just for that it deserves one out of five.

Rating: 1/5
