REVIEW: Narnia is worth a watch
Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis belongs to the same genre of fantasy fiction as Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. All three have been adapted into successful films by reputed directors. And though one should not really compare the newest Narnia film to hit the screen with its more illustrious counterparts, Prince Caspian, does have its moments. True it does not have the epic grandeur of Lord of The Rings, and neither is it about colourful spells, charms and friendship as in Harry Potter, but Narnia's Prince Caspian is a sweet film that is your window to the fantasy world!
Our only suggestion: Watch it on the biggest screen in town!
The Story: Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy are summoned back
A year has gone by since the Pevensie siblings returned to London but 1300 years have gone by in Narnia and everything has changed. The magical creatures were forced into hiding when the Telmarines (humans) invaded. The land is now ruled by the evil King Miraz whose nephew Prince Caspian is the true heir to the throne. The story starts on the night when Miraz's son is born. Having a successor to his throne now, he plots to kill Caspian as his continued presence in the kingdom might prove to be a threat to his agenda. Fortunately, Caspian escapes with a little help from his tutor who also presents him with a unique gift – a horn that originally belonged to Susan, which summons help to the one who blows it no matter where he or she is.
Of course Caspian's escape isn't made easy as Miraz's goons follow him into the dark woods. Just as they're about to capture him, Caspian blows the horn and from another time and another place, Peter, Edmund, Susan and Lucy are summoned back to Narnia.
Their greatest adventure then begins, as they go on a journey to help Caspian and the creatures of Narnia win back what was treacherously taken away from them.
Evil isn't evil enough
Remember the White Witch from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe? Well, she was defeated at the end of the previous movie but still managed to make quite an impression, a bad impression that is. And it is that very quality that is missing in King Miraz. Well he might not do magic and but he isn't meant to. His character is filled with hatred but lacks the charisma to actually command power or even the audience's respect. There isn't a point when you're hating him or hoping for his demise. Even his sword fight with Peter fails to get you excited.
