Witty one-liners and spontaneous performances make it a must watch

First things first, before writing this review I must admit I am not a Sex and the City fan. So when I walked into the multiplex to check out the season's most talked about chic flick, it was more about the movie itself rather than revisiting a cult TV series. I guess it is always better to judge a movie for what it is, without the baggage of past comparisons.

Not so young anymore:
So lets get to the plot. The film takes the story forward by a few years. Nothing much has changed in New York. Women still crave for the two Ls "love and labels". But things have changed for the four once single, Manhattan women who are now in their 40s. So say bye bye to teen problems because the focus is now on mid-life crisis. As protagonist Carrie Bradshaw puts it "We moved into the city as four girls but sitting on the table today are four women".

Who's doing what:
Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), the iconic Vogue magazine columnist has finally decided to settle down with her hotshot financier boyfriend. But soon the celeb writer's late marriage becomes the talk of the town and all this media attention gives the two-time divorce Mr Big (Chris North) last minute jitters.

Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) is still married to her college love Steve (David Eigenberg) and has a grown up kid. But work/life balance issues create a rift in her marriage as the couple starts missing the fun quotient in their relationship.

Charllotte (Kristin Davis) is living a dream life with her husband and adopted kid while Samantha (Kim Cattrall) maybe pushing 50, but is always game for more sex. Living with her model boyfriend Smith (Jason Lewis), she is back from chemotherapy but is hassled about losing her identity in this relationship. How the friends deal with these issues and come out as stronger and wiser individuals forms the crux of the plot.

Not just for Sex and the City fans: The credits roll with the familiar soundtrack as narrator Carie introduces us to the main characters. The opening montage is well designed to appeal even to those who aren't tuned into the franchise. Which means you can enjoy the film even if you have never watched the serial.

Don't be rude or interrupt others who are having a conversation. Ethnic slurs, personal insults and abuses are rather uncool. Criticise, but know where to draw the line. No point putting in personal details or links, we won't publish them. Try and write in English and please, stick to the point!
