MUSIC REVIEW: De Taali is timepass
It's a comedy. It's got Ritesh Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani, Ayesha Takia and Rimii Sen. And the tagline says 'fall in love with friendship'. Going by the initial teasers, De Taali looks like a no brainier teen flick designed to target the youth. As we call 'timepas' in college lingo! So who better than Vishal-Shekhar to take charge of the music department? The lyrics are by Abbas Tyrewala, who interestingly makes his directorial debut with Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Na - expected to release around the same time.
The album starts with a bang, courtesy Shaan, Sunidhi and Anushaka Manchanda's spirited rendition of The Other De Taali. Quite similar to the Golmaal title track in terms of composition and singing, this one is catchy from the word go. Vishal-Shekhar create a rollicking mix of hip-hip, techno and qawalli that'll make you head for the dance floor.
The fun continues with the second title song. Shaan and Sunidhi are perfect for this campus number about well… friendship. Vishal-Shekhar again spin a fusion of sounds, while Tyrewala's Hinglish lyrics could make for a good ad jingle. There's also a claptrap mix by not one, not two but three DJs. But the trio can do little more than add in some more electronic beats. This number is most likely to be used for a promotional music video.
Maari Teetri has Rajasthani lyrics, but expect anything but a folk song. Sung by Raja Hassan (of Zee Sa Re Ga Ma fame) this fast paced number has a lot of energy. Occasionally slipping into the Sukhvindara Chaiyan Chaiyan mode, reality show contestant Raja Hassan makes a confident playback debut.
