MUSIC REVIEW: God Tussi Great Ho
God Tussi Great Ho is a Salman Khan film that's been in the making for nearly four years now. So, one doesn't really expect much from the score…as is the case with most dated films. But again it's a Salman Khan movie. And in his two-decade-long filmography, Khan has rarely gone wrong with the music of his films.
God Tussi… has music by Sajid-Wajid who gave chartbusting music in his Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and Partner.
The opening number Let's Party is an average recreation of Where's The Party Tonight and It's The Time To Disco. It seems Shaan and Sunidhi just got through the motions in this club number, which might make a better impact on screen once Salman takes over the floor.
The next track Tujhe Aksa Beach would certainly make David Dhawan proud. A catchy number from the word go, the song is designed on the lines of Chalti Hai Kya Nau Se Baara and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. It also introduces us to lyrical gems such as Chacha Ki Chai Pila Du, Bachchan Se Tujhe Mila Du, Aaa Chalti Kya and Mere Bhai Ki Bhabhi Bana Du. But this bindaas attitude is exactly what we love about Salman's movies. Sallubhai's fans will instantly lap up this Taporispeak number.
The title song by Sonu Nigam-Shankar Mahadevan sounds like a Govinda-Kader Khan qawwali. Definitely not a song we would like to see Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan dance to.
If it's a Salman film, how can a Chunari song be far behind? This Udit Narayan-Alka Yagnik duet is so stuck in the '90s. From the chorus to the lyrics to the instruments, this song is a lot like what Himesh used to compose for Salman in his pre-Aashiq Banaya Aapne phase. Pity even the auto rickshaw drivers have progressed beyond such songs these days.
Now given most of the songs have been sung by Sonu, Udit and Alka, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that Neeraj Shreedhar's Tumko Dekha is a last-minute addition to the album. Neeraj who has had a string of hits recently might have been roped in to give this dated score a slightly more contemporary edge. But without Pritam's tunes, even Neeraj can't save this song.
The last three songs in the album are remixes. Needless to say the best track of the lot, Aksa Beach gets a racy mix with enough rap and loops to keep your feet tapping. There's also a musical piece inspired from the Laawaris theme. Now wonder if it was done on purpose as a Bachchan tribute?
The drab title song gets an unnecessary remix that is still too low on adrenalin.
Verdict: God Tussi Great Ho is a dated effort. And certainly a poor successor from the team of Partner.
