MUSIC REVIEW: Jimmy is blah!
Music of Mimoh Chakraborty's debut movie Jimmy (if you're really interested that is) is no great shakes. It's not an album you will miss, or one, which will leave a mark – either good or bad on you.
Jimmy's music is plain. Although there are some nice beats and the album has heavy indipop-sounding music, Jimmy fails to create an impression.
Some tunes are peppy and hummable. The singers Shaan, Debojit, Kailash Kher and Kunal Ganjawala have, as always, done a brilliant job in their respective numbers.
But one singer, who stands out (and not in a very good way), is Vijay Verma. Firstly, who on earth is Vijay Verma? And secondly, why does he whine and not sing?
His number Ye Hain Meri Dastaan is equivalent to third degree torture for your ears. The singer whines like a stray dog in the middle of the night throughout the song.
But then again the album is not entirely bad. The tracks have a good mix of indipop, qawalli and normal filmy. And some numbers might just surprise you with their cool quotient. The last song in the album of seven tracks, sung by Kunal Ganjawala, starts with an ethereal tune, which is a good attempt at creating freshness.
The other songs are more or less okay. They are nothing great but nothing bad either. There is no exceptional quality to talk about in any one of them.
With the first song going 'Why not Jimmy? Why not Jimmy' in the chorus; and the second one repeating 'Boom Shankar Bolo', not much can be said about the lyrics either. But then again, how often do we have songs with lyrics that touch your heart these days? Needless to say these ones don't either!
