Composer Shantanu Moitra who has given us Parineeta and more recently Lage Raho Munnabhai returns with Khoya Khoya Chand. However, if you are looking at something foot tapping and catchy, chances are that you may not like this album. But here's what's good about the music of Khoya Khoya Chand: it successfully manages to recreate the era that director Sudhir Mishra hopes to bring alive in the film.

But '50s were far more subdued times in Bollywood than the '70s. So quite unlike Om Shanti Om, Khoya Khoya Chand takes you quietly into the land of Raj Kapoor and Kishore Kumar reminding you how simple Bollywood and their world used to be.

So even though you may not be able to pin point a 'catchy' number, the album in general is not such a bad listening experience. All the seven tracks have a strong Shantanu Moitra influence on them. Needless to say then that Moitra has yet again lifted a classic. This time it is Bobby Helms' Jingle Bell Rock, which becomes Yeh Nigahein belted by Sonu Niigaam and Antara Choudhury.

The thing with Khoya Khoya Chand is that it isn't for those who want to turn on the music and dance their blues away. It is one of those Sunday afternoon albums, which can keep you company as you unwind after a long week.

Moreover, the tracks in the album follow an interesting trajectory. While Khushboo Sa has a jazzy feel to it; Chale Aao Saiyan is your typical kotha number; O re paakhi, a beautifully underplayed love ballad and Sakhi piya stands out with its strong classical influences. It is this flow, so to say, that makes this album worth a buy. Then again, there's the title song, which has left us quite floored.

Having said that however, one cannot say if the music works for itself. Very often in Bollywood, film music works largely because of its picturisation. And it is the screen presence of the actors and their chemistry that often become defining factors in making a film's music work at the stores. But going purely by the album's cover, Soha's presence doesn't seem too impressive.

Unless of course, Sonia Jehan decides to take centre stage and Shiney Ahuja delivers a surprise packet, chances are that this quasi-gem may just get lost among the racks in music stores.
