MUSIC REVIEW: U, Me Aur Hum

Don't expect anything great from the music of this Ajay Devgan-Kajol starrer

Some very memorable songs have been picturised on Ajay Devgan and Kajol. Be it the title song of Pyaar to Hona Hi Tha or the peppy tracks from Ishq. Somehow we have never really heard an exceptionally poor song starring these two lovebirds.

So when one picks up the music CD of U, Me Aur Hum, one does so with some amount of expectation. And expectations, as they tell you, are dangerous things. Thus it takes some effort to distance oneself from this very sweet onscreen couple and appreciate the music for what it is worth. [PICS: What makes Ajay-Kajol rule the roost]

The first thing that strikes you about this album is that there are absolutely no remixes. Breath of fresh air, you may say. But are the songs really good enough to carry off an entire film on their shoulders without a club or a lounge remix? We wouldn't say so in this case.

There are six songs in the album and we didn't mind listening the title track (both the male and female versions are quite nice, actually) and Jee Le more than a couple of times. But the other three songs simply fizzle out in comparison. [PICS: Ajay-Kajol's family bonding]

Saiyaan, Phatte and Dil Dhadka Hai are fast paced and peppy but somehow one cannot enjoy them entirely, especially after listening to Jee le. The track, sung by Adnan Sami, opens the album and pretty much sets the mood. It also reminds us the age-old adage in Bollywood film music – that you simply cannot go wrong with the Latino sound and the flamenco guitars.

While Shreya Ghoshal's rendition of the title track manages to sustain the interest generated by Jee le, the line-up pretty much falters after this track. Saiyaan, Phatte and Dil Dhakda Hai score extremely low on lyrics. So much so that even the music cannot seem to salvage it.

Technically then, we'd give thumbs up to just two numbers (remember one of them is just repeated in another person's voice) out of the six.

Would we recommend you buy the CD? Probably not. After all, just two good songs do not constitute for good album… not for us at least. [READ INTERVIEW: Kajol turns super picky]
