MUSIC REVIEW: Woodstock Villa
From Kaante to Dus Kahaniyaan, Sanjay Gupta's productions have always had an interesting score. Gupta's films have little place for the slow, romantic numbers. So be it Ganpat or Ishq Samandar, it's all about getting the listener to shake his a***. And Woodstock Villa is no different.
Gupta sticks to formula of roping in different composers for each track. So you have a bouquet of artistes from Anu Malik to Bappa Lahiri to Mika chipping in with a track each.
Though the film is directed by Hansal Mehta, there is an unmistakable Sanjay Gupta stamp right through the album. Maybe just like Yash Raj and the Bhatts even White Feather Films can claim to have their own sound.
The album opens with Dhoka by Aanchal Dutta. It's a solo dance number most probably designed to showcase leading lady Neha Uberoi's dancing talents. The sound is similar to the Zinda and Dus Kahaniyaan title tracks. Nikhil Chinappa however does quite a neat job with the remix that works better than the original. Despite a catchy tune there is nothing breakthrough about Dhoka. You heard such numbers in several Gupta films. But with some aggressive promotion and a nice music video Dhoka could find itself a place on the charts for a few weeks.
PICS: Sikandar - Neha dress to kill
Mika remixes his popular debut number Saawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag with some help from Anu Malik. While the original had a folk feel to it, this one is purely for the clubs. There is also a remix version (that makes it a remix of a remix!). Sure the tempo is spruced up and the chorus had additional loops, but we prefer the Anu Malik version. Sikandar has played it safe by choosing an already popular song for his solo stage number. Lets see if his dancing matches up to the pace of the song.
