Vivek out of Shyam Benegal film
Filmmaker Shyam Benegal has dumped Vivek Oberoi. Reason? He was acting too pricy. A source from Shyam Benegal's unit informs, "Benegal met Vivek for his forthcoming venture Chamki Chameli. Vivek insisted on listening to the script before giving the go ahead. However, after hearing the narration the actor hiked his price from Rs 3 crores to Rs 6 crores. The success of Shootout At Lokandwala seems to have gone to Vivek's head."
The price stunned Benegal and he left without saying a word. The director is now working on the cast again. The film, which was to be produced by Chetan Motiwalla,is now taken over by Reliance Films.
Earlier Benegal had announced the film with Urmila Matonkar and Jimmy Shergil in the lead. Sources say that Shyam Benegal was keen on having Kareena Kapoor in the lead and had even approached her but the actress backed out due to date problems.
The story revolves around the eponymous Chamki, a beautiful gypsy girl with a fiery temper. The story is written by Shama Zaidi. The music is by A R Rahman and lyrics by Javed Akhtar. The film is ischeduled to go on floor in October 2008.
