Devdas and Parvati are childhood sweethearts. Devdas is from a rich family and his father is a barrister, while Parvati’s family are not so highly placed in society. Devdas is sent away to London to get a law degree and does not come home for ten years. On return, he rushes to meet Paro and falls in love with her all over again. But the couple’s love is doomed as Devdas’ parents are not for the match. Paro is given in marriage to an old Zamindar as his second wife while he has kids older than her. An embittered Devdas turns takes to alcohol. His friend Chunnilal introduces Devdas to Chandramukhi, a courtesan. She falls in love with him, but for all that, Devdas is unable to forget the love of his life and drinks his way to death.

A very moving saga brought to life by Sanjay Leela Bhansali with grandiose settings amidst a lot of bright colours. The emotional drama played by the three protagonists, Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit is definitely worth a see.
