Kabir Khan is the captain of the Indian hockey team. His team loses in the finals and like a true sportsman he goes over to congratulate the captain of the winning team. Media reports insist that he is a traitor and had deliberately lost the match. A disgraced Khan disappears without a trace along with his widowed mother for seven years.

He resurfaces in Delhi and applies for the position of Coach for the women’s hockey team. Politics rule everywhere and the organisers are not too keen on taking him on or spending money on coaching women. But finally they agree to give Khan a chance.

On the first day of training, Khan finds himself facing 16 women from different parts of the country. They are mentally as diversified as the distance between the towns they belong to. The coach faces a difficult challenge in making a team out of the girls.

Khan takes a tough stand from the first day and the girls fall in line after fighting tooth and nail. Things move fast once they realise that they cannot win unless as a team. They go on to play the World Cup and while winning some and losing some matches, they manage to win the cup.
