Shah Rukh's Asoka
This historical flick is about Prince Asoka. The prince (Shah Rukh Khan) leaves the kingdom of Magadha to live in the forests as per his mother’s instructions. While there he meets and falls in love with Kaurwaki (Kareena Kapoor). He holds back his identity and calls himself Pawan. Asoka has to suddenly go to Magadha and when he gets back from his trip, Kaurwaki’s bodyguard Bheema (Rahul Dev) tells him that she and her brother Arya are dead. A devastated Asoka goes back home. On the way, Devi (Hrishitaa Bhatt) rescues him when he is attacked. He stays with her as she tends to him. Asoka weds her and takes her to Magadha. But his father refuses to accept the marriage as she is from the Buddhist faith.
Asoka takes his wife away to Ujjain. But when Devi gets pregnant, the news arouses hatred amongst Asoka’s stepbrothers. Their plot to kill Devi is foiled by Asoka’s mother. But they kill her instead. A furious Asoka swears revenge and kills his stepbrothers one by one. One of them escapes to Kalinga. When the ruler of Kalinga refuses to hand over his stepbrother, Asoka declares war on Kalinga, little knowing who the ruler is. Asoka is unstoppable as a bloody war ensues. Does he win the battle?
